Scott’s Orchard is looking for an intern who is pursing a degree in Agriculture, Business, Marketing, Food Safety, Event Promotion, Orchard Operations, Horticulture, or Biology. Our century old apple and peach orchard is a diverse operation with 10 different business units and multiple sales channels.
Requirements
- Join our weekly Monday morning conference call
- Must be able to work in the outside elements, and seasonally long hours including nights and weekends.
- Must be able to lift up-to 42 pounds and carry at least 250 feet.
- Must be able to enter and exit farm machinery and vehicles safely.
- Ability to learn how to operate farm implements.
- Ability to recognize potential safety hazards and respond appropriately to ensure safety of guests and coworkers.
- Must communicate effectively. This includes responding to 75% of all communication during normal business hours within 30 minutes and the remaining 25% within 2 hours.
Key Results Area
- Explore all aspects of our direct to consumer retail channels including farmers markets and general store
- Assist the Event Coordinator with on-farm agritourism events such as pick-your-own, field trips. Private events, and public events
- Help the Farm Educator write tour scripts
- Learn how our business-to-business sales channel operates and assist with order fulfillment
- Understand our on-farm food processing capabilities while working with the Bakery Manager
- Work with our community partners to embrace our local economy
- Understand how we use software to assist with our business
- Work with the General Store Manager to coordinate donations
- Watch markets to secure grain futures
- Work directly with the owners to understand field production, crop protection, tree maintenance, and labor needs
